Growth is a fundamental part of our being. Even the worst times in our lives somehow become this ionic time of self-development. Yet people resist growth in such a way all the time. Do you think you allowing yourself space to grow? Or are you resisting?
We need to be clear on one thing: growth requires change. Change is the only constant in our life. Yet people resist it to the best of their abilities. Possibly the most powerful thing you can do for yourself, is accept that change is part of your life. It's part of my life too. Hey, I didn't move to Australia to be where I am. I came here to what I thought would eventually be a family. That idea turned really fast and I had a choice. Either pick up and move home, or believe that there was another reason to be here other than love. Months later, it has become more than I ever thought. But I had to trust the change and welcome a new idea into my head. We all have this option. Change is challenging for us because more often then not, change occurs under stress. Yet change requires stress for us to thrive in it. If we don't feel stressed we won't make action. The best thing we can do for ourselves, is become a little more accepting and comfortable with the idea of stress. It can work for us so long as we keep it at bay. How can you become more comfortable with stress? Start with the small things. Take driving for example. How annoying can some people be on the road? Try to chill your road rage. Try to find and rage within yourself that you can relax on. Where does your OCD lie and can you relax? This practice helps to cultivate observation over reaction. You can begin to observe your feeling of stress over that driver, and then you see that instead of reacting you have a choice. A choice to change your behavior. This is just a small example that you can practice throughout your life. Who do you wish to become? How will you react in a stressful situation? Why is this important? Because in order to accept change, we must be able to push through the stress. Only then will we truly grow.
